Neuroimmunology is a field that studies the interaction of the peripheral immune and nervous systems. This field of research seeks to better understand the interactions of these two complex systems during development, homeostasis and response to injury as well as to understand the mechanism of action of dendritic immune cells (MoDC) on neurons via synaptic communication.
We have developed at NETRI microfluidic devices with asymmetric architecture and coupled with high-throughput compatible MultiElectrod Arrays (MEAs), in collaboration with Axion BioSystems. These devices allow neurons and MoDC co-culture as well as the creation of synapses to study the functional effect of peripheral immune cells on neurons.
