Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease that causes involuntary or uncontrollable movements. The most prominent signs and symptoms of PD occur when dopaminergic neurons in the basal ganglia degenerate. Due to its complex pathology, there is currently no disease model that replicates all aspects of human PD.

To model human PD, we are developing at NETRI a microfluidic device with a complex architecture that reproduces in proportion the basal ganglia loop.  With its 5 3D-Deposition Chambers of different sizes and identically connected to the different parts of the basal ganglia loop, our PentaLink allows to recreate the basal ganglia loop at the micron scale.
