What are Microchannels?

Microchannels allow the connection between compartments. Due to their micrometric measurements (typically 3µm height and 5µm width), only neurites can grow within the microchannels, leaving the cell bodies within the compartments themselves. Depending on the desired results, the microchannels are available in 2 formats: tunnels and grooves. The tunnels allow a discontinuous connection and the grooves a continuous connection.

What are the benefits ?

  • Recreate physiological behavior of different areas of the same organ
  • Recreate the interaction of a tissue with another one
  • Control the connection rate with the number of microchannels
  • Enhanced fluidic isolation with microchannels tunnels
  • Enhanced rate of axonal projections with microchannels grooves

Microchannels Tunnels
Enhanced fluidic isolation

Microchannels Tunnels are rectangular slits engraved within compartments and on the same plan. Compared to highways with tools, Microchannels tunnels allow to create discontinuous connections between compartments. Tunnels improve the fluidic isolation.

Microchannels Grooves
Enhanced axonal projection rate

Microchannels Grooves are rectangular slits engraved within the PDMS layer, passing underneath the compartments and on the the lower plane of the compartments. Compared to highways without tolls, Microchannels grooves allow continuous connections between compartments.
